Founded in 1974, Alamo Rent a Car is one of the companies of Enterprise Holdings, which operates Enterprise Rent a Car and National Rent a Car worldwide. With more than 3,000 agencies distributed across 5 continents, a fleet of about 150.000 vehicles, and 15 million cars rented per year, Alamo is one of the leading car rental companies of the world.

Various milestones in its history make Alamo a pioneer in the rental industry. Among its innovations, Alamo introduced the concept of unlimited mileage without charge. In 1995 they were the first to launch a website accepting reservations over the Internet. In 2002 they were forerunners in associating themselves with Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort to be their official rental agency.

A few years later, in 2005, Alamo launched a registration and check-in system unique in the industry. And in 2011 they associated with Japan Airlines (JAL) to offer members a frequent travel service, the possibility to earn miles when renting a car in the USA or Canada.

In 2007 Alamo was acquired by Enterprise Holdings, making it the biggest car rental company in the world. Later Alamo expanded its presence into Latin America and the Caribbean, when it opened in Uruguay in addition to strongly consolidating in the USA, Canada, and Asia.

Among it’s distinctions Alamo received the “Extra Mile”prize from Budget Travel magazine, granted because of their self-service terminals. And a 2014 report on North American Car Rental by J.D. Power magazine awarded first, second, and third places respectively to Enterprise Rent a Car, National Rent a Car, and Alamo, all belonging to the same group.
