CDW – Collision Damage Waiver

Collision Damage Waiver reduces the renter’s liability from the total cost of the damage to an excess amount, where applicable, unless the renter intentionally causes the damage, is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or uses the car in a prohibited or negligent way – such as driving off main roads or hiring to other parties. CDW covers liability for damage to the car or its parts. In most locations, window screens, tyres, undercarriage, replacement locks, replacement keys and towing charges are not covered under the CDW policy. Other exclusions may apply and can differ between car rental companies so we recommend checking these exclusions with the car rental company when picking up the car.

Theft Protection

Theft protection reduces the renter’s liability in the event of theft or damage caused due to theft or attempted theft of the car to an excess amount, where applicable. Negligence connected with the theft of damage to the car may lead to the car rental company requiring the full amount for the cost of the car.

SCDW – Super Collision Damage Waiver

Purchasing the Super Collision Damage Waiver reduces the renter’s financial responsibility for accidental damage to the vehicle, its parts and accessories, theft or attempted theft to zero. It does not cover any damage to the interior of the vehicle, tyre and wheel damage, damage to the underside of the vehicle, broken or lost keys/car documents or contamination of fuel, neither in the event of deliberate intention or negligence.

PAI – Personal Accident Insurance

This optional insurance may be covered by your holiday insurance (please check before you, the renter, travel). If you require PAI, it can be purchased at the car rental company when you pick up the car at the counter or pre-purchased as part of some of our packages.

What is your responsibility when renting a car in the USA?

In most states in USA, when you rent a car, you are responsible for any and all loss or damage to the car resulting from any cause, including but not limited to, collision, rollover, theft, vandalism, seizure, fire flood, hail or other acts of nature regardless of fault.

In most states, in the event of any loss or damage to the car, regardless of fault, your financial responsibility extends to the full value of the car at the time of rental, less its salvage value, plus expenses for towing, storage impound fees, an administrative fee and a reasonable charge for loss of use. In California and Nevada, your responsibility for loss or damage to the car from vandalism unrelated to theft will not exceed $500 and you are not responsible for theft, regardless of purchasing LDW, unless the theft results from your fault. In Illinois, your responsibility for loss or damage related to theft is limited to $2000, unless the theft results from your fault.

LDW - Loss Damage Waiver

LDW, which is not insurance, means that you will not be held responsible for damage to the car in the event that any damage should occur, provided the loss or damage was not the result of any prohibited use of the car.
