Founded in 1918, Hertz is the largest car rental company in the United States and is the most well-known internationally. It has about 10,460 locations distributed throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa, The Middle East, and New Zealand.
Hertz has won numerous international awards for its excellent service. The company has been chosen thirteen times by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine, as the Best Car Rental Agency, as well as placed in the top categories for the U.S. Zagat Car Rental Survey in 2013 and 2014. Also won the global awards for Best Rewards Program and Best Overall Benefits from FlyerTalk.com.
Hertz has also been noted for their products and services such as Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, NeverLost, WIFI service in major airports and locations, and the unique cars they offer, divided into the classes Prestige, Fun, and Family Collection.
Other companies owned by Hertz include: Hertz Equipment Rental C Corporation (HERC), which offers construction and industrial equipment rentals, as well as sells used, quality equipment; Hertz Claim Management Corporation, a company that administrates third party liability insurance; and Hertz Local Edition, which specializes in replacement of rental vehicles to customers whose cars need to be repaired. There is also Hertz On Demand, a car rental service for short-term and shared vehicles. Hertz also owns Donlen Corporation, a leading business in vehicle rentals and fleet management.
